Love Laugh

Art Journal Week11 – collect

Journaling:
How crazy I am? What else do I collect besides digi scrapping and photography equipment? My love since I was a kid purses and shoes. Especially purses somehow they have magic that I am drawn to them and I find beauty in every single style. There is always an occasion to wear that special purse (I guess, I am like “mi abuelita Enmita”). I remember enjoying shopping for hours in the department store just opening and closing the zippers….

Altered Journal week 10 – Circus

Journaling:
I really feel that the day needs to have more than 24 hours. I feel that life is passing by and I don’t have enough time to do what I need to do. Between work, your activities (dance, piano) the house improvements and family, there is no more time for me. But that’s okay, I would not change anything. This crazy life is the best that I could have.
Just always remember, it doesn’t matter how busy you are, there is always time to make it worth it and have fun.

There is Magic

Perlitas

Okay… my girls show is coming. I am starting to get in the mood for dance scrapping…

Journaling:
We had a wonderful cinco de mayo celebration and your first small show doing Perlitas. You remember all the steps and had a blast dancing. We loved to see how the people cheer at everyone.

Mommy's Easter

Journaling:
I don’t have photos of Easter. This is a photo close to Easter in 1978. I don’t know how things are in Peru now. It has been a long time. Easter was a religious holiday; it was a lot of fun because everyone was over. Everything started on Palm Sunday when we got the beautiful Palm leafs. Thursday at noon people stopped working no stores were open including night clubs the stores didn’t sell alcohol. The TV didn’t play commercials only movies about Jesus Christ. Holy Friday we used to get together with some of our parents friends and family. We could only eat fish; we used to have fish “anticuchos” (shish-ka-bas). We played different games (cards, crocket … whatever kept us busy).
There was no Easter bunny, no baskets, and no gifts. It was a time to repent for our sins and we were all waiting for Easter Sunday when the celebration started with a big Bar-B-Q party. Sunday after church, we had very happy music and everyone will dance. I have beautiful unforgettable memories with our family even without all the goodies that we have today.

Not Spring Yet

Journaling:
My crazy girls! Its freezing cold (at least for Southern California), but they put their bathing suit and start playing with the water. I was even cold to keep taking pictures. It didn’t take long and they came inside to take a warm bath.

First Piano Concert - Carla

Journaling:
I was so proud of you. I know your songs were pretty difficult and you are so shy. As soon as we came in, you hold my hand and look at me with those eyes. What I am doing here? I was keep telling it is okay. After your piano concert you said “Mama I made a mistake, but I just did like you said. I continue playing” I told you, I know and you did wonderful. Connie hugged you and said “I clapped really hard for you Carla”. We had a wonderful day.

First Piano Concert - Connie

Journaling:
When we got to the place, and Miss Jane asked you to practice before the recital, you were so nervous that I didn’t think you can play in front of people. I didn’t know what to expect. What a surprised when she called your name and you sit down and play like an angel. No mistakes your posture and fingers were flowing. What a treat, I know you were nervous holding my hand but you did it… A big smile while you bow for your applauses. Great Job Connie!!

My First Sewing Machine

Journaling:
This is my first sewing machine. I was 14 when I got it from my Aunt Agripina (abuelita Emma’s sister). This is a very special sewing machine that belonged to my Great Grandmother Morfilia . It’s the second singer generation all manual no electricity. It worked great. I sew different stuff it only could do straight stitching but it was a lot of fun for me being able to fix my clothes with my own sewing machine. When my mom went back to Peru to sell everything that was left there. She mentioned the machine so many memories came to my mind that I wanted my sewing machine here. She brought it in her container. Now, it’s in a very special place and it always will be in a special place in my heart. Now, I just close my eyes and I can see my Aunt Gripa’s tired hands showing me how to use the machine. What it is more special is that my Aunt was blind (she got glaucoma later in years), but that never stopped her from showing us every thing she could do.

It’s funny you are always the little princesses but with the rain you find other treasures. Connie even named the worm. She said it was talking to her and it was her friend. As long as these friends stay outside, no problem for me….

Friends

Art of Sewing

Journaling:
We did not have a lot. When my Dad was at that time a young officer in the army, there was no money to buy not even material every month for the fancy parties. Funny society, it didn’t look good to wear the same dress to a party. My mom learn how to sew from my grandmother and I remember specifically this dress, as it was in this photo and later on was backless, after that a skirt with a fancy blouse. I can hear those military party’s with live bands almost one every month. My Mom always looked gorgeous. I was amazed how she could take one dress and make two blouses, or whatever she needed for her or us.

Memories

Journaling:
My grandmother was an excellent seamstress. She could do everything (including my Mom’s wedding dress). However, for some reason this dress that my Mom is wearing stay in my mind for a long time the dark olive green and gold was gorgeous. I never forget the good old times when there were not that much money and how one dress could be altered over and over and it always looked like a brand new one… just like magic.

Waiting for Spring

Good Times

Journaling:
My Mom and her friends in Lobitos. I remember the beautiful friendships and parties that they have. My Mom is the first one on the left and her best friend Mary Rosales is at the right. Good friends are forever, even with the distance after so many years. I remember her beautiful voice singing solo and my Dad saying that Mom singed even better (we all knew that wasn’t true but it was for my Dad’s ears).
