Friends

Journaling:
I used to sit you together and with toys in between. Somehow, every time I turned around you were sitting or laying down together so close and looking at something. You could not talk and sit up straight yet. But, I can see the love and friendship flourishing.

Pumps

Journaling:
It’s funny how I find you doing the same things I did when I was a child. I just laugh so much. You said, “We love the hills Mommy, but they hurt when we walk. But that’s okay all princesses have slippers.”

My Partner

Journaling:
Once the ship turn back home, the beautiful summer weather was over, now we had cold air and lots of wind. I was still fascinated to look at the water and nobody wanted to go for walk except you Connie. Let’s go Mommy it didn’t matter if we just hold on to each other. What a wonderful time. I never forget how the wind was moving your pig tales all over. Of course, you always let me take awesome pictures.

Mommys Easter

Journaling:
I don’t have photos of Easter. This is a photo close to Easter in 1978. I don’t know how things are in Peru now. It has been a long time. Easter was a religious holiday; it was a lot of fun because everyone was over. Everything started on Palm Sunday when we got the beautiful Palm leafs. Thursday at noon people stopped working no stores were open including night clubs the stores didn’t sell alcohol. The TV didn’t play commercials only movies about Jesus Christ. Holy Friday we used to get together with some of our parents friends and family. We could only eat fish; we used to have fish “anticuchos” (shish-ka-bas). We played different games (cards, crocket … whatever kept us busy).
There was no Easter bunny, no baskets, and no gifts. It was a time to repent for our sins and we were all waiting for Easter Sunday when the celebration started with a big Bar-B-Q party. Sunday after church, we had very happy music and everyone will dance. I have beautiful unforgettable memories with our family even without all the goodies that we have today.

First Easter

Journaling:
Carlita, I was so excited with your first Easter but you were not that happy when we went to your Auntie Patty’s home. Just looking at the other friends and relatives was not that pleasant even that you saw them before at home. You were always so shy never a smile if you are not at home. I never had a nice studio photo. That’s when I start getting interested in photography to capture your beautiful smile and faces.

Searching

Journaling:
You are so funny, I saw you with your hand in your eyes playing outside and I said. “What are you doing Connie?” you said “I am searching for the Lions, monkeys and bears” I said “What?” and you start laughing and said “I am pretending Mommy, I am in the jungle searching for animals”. You always come up with the sweetest answers that I can’t stop laughing. Your imagination goes so far and you know it, helping me to enjoy life to the fullest.

Connie 8Mos

Journaling:
Connie, its funny how your personality was showing. You looked always so serious but when you smile you light up the room. I love that serious expression later on I realized that you were observing on what naughty activity you want to do next.
You really move us around. Your Dad and I were just laughing of the good times and looking forward for next ones to come.

Mi Pequeña Pianista

Journaling:
Connie, it’s a blessing listening to you. You are in this photo with Miss Jen your piano teacher. Your legs are so high from the floor. She is so proud of the progress that you are making every week. One of the best moments in our day is listening how you play. Hope you continue playing the rest of your life.

Tia Lidia

Journaling:
Tia Lidia is abuelito Joel (Mommy’s Daddy) younger sister. This photo was when she graduated from High School (1958). Abuelito Joel’s family was really poor. But somehow they all manage to have a Bachelor’s degree in different careers. She was a school teacher. She used to come to visit our home a lot. She always brought lots of home made tamales (especially those sweet ones). I can still taste them now. Tia Lidia, Abuelito Joel and both of you share the same birthday. Isn’t that something!!! Miracles are always around the corner “mis chiquitas”.
Just for you to know her name is Lidia in “Spanish”.

Traveling through your Imagination

Journaling:
When I think this is the most fun that I probably will have with you. Something else comes up that I realized I was wrong. Now, you let your imagination grow. This time Connie put her Ariel outfit and told me that she will fly and swim like a fish. You both asked me to have your hair straight down because you both wanted to have Ariel’s hair. We don’t have a second Ariel custom but Carlita said “I’ll be a Snow White that swims too”. After that you both wanted jump like frogs!!

Sunny Beaches

Journaling:
This photo was torn. However, it is the only photo that I had when my parents and us go on vacation. Almost every year we went to Playa Hondable (Ancon, Peru) for two weeks with our friends the Perez family. The best times, we get dressed with our swimsuits go to have breakfast all day to the beach, play volleyball in the afternoon and change for dinner. That’s it; we didn’t have tv in our rooms. If we wanted tv, we had to go to the main lobby wich we never did. Our parents used to play cards (Uno) and we were playing Chinese checkers, uno, monopoly… you name it. Simple times but unforgettable. I was taking the picture so I am not there.
